Practice Intelligence gives you one place to see your whole due diligence practice: how much work is underway, how it's progressing, who owns it, and how the practice is growing over time.
It's built from the engagement details your teams record on each engagement (such as project type, industry and expected fee) and from the day-to-day work on each engagement (tasks, requests and uploaded documents). On these screens, "project", "deal" and "engagement" all mean the same thing: one due diligence engagement in Audit Sight.
Before you start
Practice Intelligence is only as complete as your engagement details. Until they're filled in, charts group engagements as Unassigned and fee figures stay empty.
- Choose the details your firm uses and add the choices for each dropdown. See Setting Up Your Firm's Engagement Details.
- Ask your teams to fill in the details on each engagement, including Engagement Fee Average. See Entering Engagement Details.
- Archive engagements when the work is finished, so Overview shows only current work.
Where the numbers come from
- Engagement details are entered on each engagement's Summary tab.
- Fees come only from Engagement Fee Average, the expected fee entered for each engagement. Engagements without one are left out of fee totals and averages rather than counted as $0.
- Dates such as "engagements added" use the date each engagement was created in Audit Sight, not the accounting period being analyzed.
Open Practice Intelligence
Select Practice Intelligence in the side menu. It opens on the Overview tab.
Overview and Trends
- Overview shows where your practice stands today: active engagements, which ones have received data, overdue tasks and requests, how far along each engagement is, and how the work is spread across your partners and managers. See Practice Intelligence: The Overview Dashboard.
- Trends shows how your practice is changing: engagements added, expected fees, and the mix of work by project type, industry, source of opportunity and more. See Practice Intelligence: The Trends Dashboard.
The engagement table
Below each dashboard is a table with one row per engagement. It starts with Project ID, Project Name and Client, then has a column for each engagement detail your firm has turned on, and ends with Status (Active or Archived).
Note: The Client column is the client the engagement belongs to in Audit Sight. It's different from the Client Name detail, which is the organization that hired your firm.
- Sort or filter any column from its header.
- Select a Project Name to open that engagement.
- Drag the bar above the table to make it taller or shorter. Select Hide table to give the charts the whole screen, and Show table to bring it back.
Filter what you see
- Select Filters.
- Open the list for any detail, such as Industry, and check one or more values, such as Healthcare. Each value shows how many engagements have it, and the top of the panel shows how many engagements match.
- Select Show [number] engagements.
Checking several values in one list shows engagements that have any of them. Filters on different details combine, so an engagement has to match each one.
Each filter appears as a tag next to the Filters button. Select the × on a tag to remove it, or select Reset filters to clear them all.
Filters apply to the whole page at once: the cards, the charts and the table. Filters you set from the table's column headers work the same way. They stay in place when you switch between Overview and Trends, and Practice Intelligence remembers them the next time you open it on the same browser.
Tip: If the numbers look lower than you expect, check for filter tags next to Filters (the button shows a count when filters are on), or select Reset filters.
Export to Excel
Select Export above the table to download an Excel workbook named [Your firm] - Practice Intelligence - [date].xlsx.
- The workbook has the same columns as the table. It doesn't include the charts, completion percentages or overdue counts.
- Your filters come with it as Excel filters, so the workbook opens showing the same engagements as the screen, in the same order. Clear the filters in Excel to see the rest.
- Exported from Overview, the workbook opens filtered to active engagements; clear the Status filter to see archived ones too. Exported from Trends, it also applies the date range you chose.
- Fees are formatted as currency and dates as Excel dates, ready for your own analysis.
Note: The workbook always contains every engagement and its fees, even when you've filtered. Your filters only hide rows. Before you share it, delete the rows the reader shouldn't see.
Frequently asked questions
Which engagements are included?
Every engagement whose Engagement Type is Due Diligence. Overview shows the ones that haven't been archived, however long ago they were added. Trends shows every one added in the date range you choose, active or archived, which is why the two tabs can show different counts. If an engagement is missing, open it and check its Engagement Type.
Why don't I see a detail in the filters, charts or table?
It's turned off for your firm, or it's a dropdown that doesn't have any choices yet. Both are managed in My Firm Settings on the Engagement Fields tab.
Why do some engagements show as Unassigned?
No one has entered a value for that detail on those engagements yet. To list them, open Filters and check Unassigned under that detail. Then fill in the detail on each engagement's Summary tab.
Why are there no fee figures?
Fee figures use only Engagement Fee Average, so they appear only when your firm has it turned on. No fees entered or No fee data means none of the matching engagements has an Engagement Fee Average yet. Engagement Fee Low and Engagement Fee High aren't used.
How soon do my changes show up?
The next time you open Practice Intelligence or refresh the page.
