Engagement details record the key facts about a due diligence engagement: the type of work, who hired your firm, the expected fee, who owns the work and more. Practice Intelligence brings them together across every engagement, so the more complete they are, the more useful its dashboards become.
Find Engagement Details
Open an engagement and go to its Summary tab. The Engagement Details section is below the summary cards.
- The seven details at the top, from Project ID to Seller Legal Name, are filled in automatically and can't be edited here. To correct one, see the table of automatic details in Setting Up Your Firm's Engagement Details.
- The rest are grouped into Deal, Client & Target, Fees, Industry, Accounting & Reporting, and Team. Select Show more to see every group.
- To find a detail quickly, type in Search fields, or select All, Required to Archive, Empty or Filled. Each button shows how many details it contains.
- Your firm chooses which details appear. Select Configure to see your firm's settings. Changes there apply to every engagement at your firm.
Not sure what a detail means? Hover over or select the info icon next to its name to see a description and examples.
Edit details
- Select Edit.
- Fill in or change any details.
- Select Save. To discard your changes, select Cancel.
Each kind of detail works a little differently:
| Kind of detail | How to fill it in |
|---|---|
| Dropdowns, such as Project Type and Industry | Pick one of your firm's choices. If the choice you need isn't listed, it can be added in My Firm Settings. See Setting Up Your Firm's Engagement Details. |
| Text, such as Client Name and Seller Location | Type the value, up to 255 characters. Client Name is the organization that hired your firm, which can differ from the client the engagement belongs to in Audit Sight. |
| Fees | Enter whole dollars, for example 50000. Always fill in Engagement Fee Average: it's the fee Practice Intelligence uses, and it isn't calculated from the low and high fees. If you don't know the fee yet, leave it empty, because a fee of 0 counts as $0 in averages. |
| Calendar Years to Present in Report | Enter a whole number, for example 3. |
| Financial Partner and Financial Project Manager | Pick someone at your firm. If someone you expect isn't listed, check that they have access to this engagement's client. |
- To clear a detail, delete the text, choose the blank option at the top of a dropdown, or select the × next to a person's name, then select Save.
- If your firm retires a dropdown choice, engagements that already use it keep showing it, but it can't be picked for new entries.
- You can fill in details on archived engagements too, so past work shows up in Practice Intelligence.
Use suggestions to keep names consistent
When you type in a text detail such as Client Name, Investment Banker(s) or Seller Location, Audit Sight suggests matching entries your firm has already used on other engagements. Pick one to reuse the same spelling, or keep typing to enter something new.
Reusing the same spelling means the same organization isn't counted as two different ones in Practice Intelligence. Picking a suggestion only fills in that box; nothing is saved until you select Save.
Archive an engagement
Your firm can mark some details as Required to Archive. These details show a Required to Archive label. You can leave them empty while the work is underway; Audit Sight checks them only when you archive the engagement.
- Select the gear icon next to the engagement's name to open Edit Engagement.
- Turn on Archive and select Save Engagement.
If required details are missing
If a required detail is empty when you select Save Engagement, the engagement isn't archived. Instead, Audit Sight shows Required to Archive with the message "The following required engagement fields are empty" and lists them.
- Select Complete required fields. Engagement Details opens showing only the required details.
- Select Edit, fill them in, and select Save.
- Archive the engagement again.
