The Trends tab of Practice Intelligence shows how your practice is changing: how many engagements you're adding, what they're expected to bring in, and how the mix of work shifts by project type, industry, source of opportunity and more.
To open it, select Practice Intelligence in the side menu, then the Trends tab. For filters, the engagement table and exporting, see Getting Started with Practice Intelligence.
What's included
Trends covers every due diligence engagement added in the date range you choose, active or archived. That's why its counts differ from Overview, which shows only active engagements. To leave archived engagements out, open Filters and check Active under Status.
Choose a date range
Trends is based on when engagements were added to Audit Sight (the Date Project Added), not on the accounting period being analyzed.
- Select Last 30 days, Last 90 days, Quarter to date (from the start of the current calendar quarter), Last 12 months (the default) or All time. The engagement table below follows the same range.
- In the Trend view, select Week, Month or Quarter to set the period each bar covers. The first and last bars can cover only part of a period, so they're often shorter.
Summary cards
| Card | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Engagements Added | The number of engagements added during the date range that match your filters. |
| Average Fee | The average expected fee (Engagement Fee Average) of those engagements. Engagements without a fee are left out. A fee entered as $0 counts and lowers the average, so leave the fee empty until it's known. |
| Total Estimated Fees | The total of their expected fees. This is estimated fees, not earned revenue. |
- Each card compares the date range with the period just before it, for example Up 173% vs prior 12 months. Quarter to date is compared with the same point in the previous quarter, and All time has no comparison.
- Trends counts only engagements created in Audit Sight. If your firm started using Audit Sight during the comparison period, that period looks smaller than it was, and the change looks larger than your real growth.
- If none of the matching engagements has a fee, the fee cards show No fee data instead of $0. The fee cards appear only when your firm has Engagement Fee Average turned on.

Trend or Breakdown
- Trend shows how a number changes from week to week, month to month or quarter to quarter.
- Breakdown shows how a number is split across the values of one detail during the date range, for example estimated fees by source of opportunity. It doesn't compare periods.
Group by and Measure
- Group by splits the chart by any detail your firm has turned on, such as Project Type, Industry or Financial Partner. Choose Overall for a single total.
- Measure chooses the number: Engagement Count, Average Fee or Total Estimated Fees. The fee measures appear only when your firm has Engagement Fee Average turned on.
- Group by and Measure only change the chart. They don't filter the cards or the table.
The chart's title describes what you're looking at, for example Monthly Engagements Added by Acquisition Type.
- In the Trend view, a grouped chart shows the six groups with the most engagements and combines the rest into Other. The Breakdown view shows every group.
- Engagements that don't have a value for the detail appear as Unassigned. That includes past engagements whose details were never filled in; you can fill them in on archived engagements too. See Entering Engagement Details.
- Text details such as Client Name are grouped together when they differ only in capitalization, spacing, punctuation or an ending such as "LLC", "Inc." or "& Co.". Each group uses its most common spelling. Other differences, such as abbreviations, show as separate groups, so pick a suggestion when you type.
Hover and select
Hover over a bar to see its numbers. For fee measures, the popup also shows how many engagements in that group have a fee, for example With a fee: 13 of 15.
When the chart is grouped, select a colored section of a bar in the Trend view, or a bar in the Breakdown view, to filter the whole page to that value. A tag such as Source of Opportunity: Referral appears next to Filters, and the cards, chart and table update. Select the × on the tag to remove it.
Export
To download the engagements behind the chart, select Export above the engagement table. See "Export to Excel" in Getting Started with Practice Intelligence.
